Drug pumps are used to deliver the pain medication to patients with chronic or continuing severe pain. This can include patients that have spinal cord injuries. This is because it assists in the direct delivery of the pain medication to spinal cord, which the pain signals are then interrupted from reaching the brain.
Drug pumps are not used for everyone, this is a type of pain relief that is immediate and made only for severe types of injuries or disease. This is a way to keep the person afflicted with the injury or disease to have pain relief when the condition becomes too much to bare and pills would not work fast enough to relieve the pain.
There is one other type of drug pump and this is used for people that have severe type I diabetes that are not able to regulate their blood sugar level. This is a way for this person to have immediate insulin as quickly as they need it to raise the blood glucose level into the normal range. |
