A lot of factors are taken into account when a doctor is diagnosing migraine in a patient. Usually, the doctor begins by finding out if the patient is suffering from any other disease or not, and if he/she is currently under any kind of medication. There is a chance the strong medication might be triggering the migraine attacks.
Then the patient is asked more on his/her sleep patterns and whether there are any problems in sleeping. Persistent pain in just one part of the head is the most common thing to watch out for. Often Migraine patients have visual disturbances, and they either get blackouts during their attacks, or see blinding flashes of light in front of them. There are chances of feeling permanently nauseated as well.
Triggers are observed carefully. There may be particular foods, smells, colours, other factors such as heat and pollution etc. that may be causing these attacks. It is important to ensure that these factors are dealt with properly, and preferably avoided in order to reduce the number of attacks. Better mental peace techniques are suggested so that the patient remains at ease, and does not go through stressful conditions which may worsen the attacks. |
