Symptoms of a Herniated Disc?

The primary symptom of a herniated disc is severe pain and backache. Since these discs touch the nerves of the central nervous systems, many chemicals are released as a consequence. In the lower portion if the disc is herniated, it typically leads to a feeling of numbness, or pain down in the buttocks. This is the most common symptom, called sciatica. This condition is characterized by pain around the calf region, and afflicts the sciatica nerve in the body. However, the symptoms depend largely on where the discs are dislocated, where they are touching the nervous system and which tissues are getting affected. Usually, pain due to herniated disc is persistent in and around a specific area of the patient, and is not like throbbing pain which might arise from other problems. Numbness and pain around the hip region down till the legs might also be felt. The pain might aggravate with activities like sneezing or bending down. There are many cases where a herniated disc has not caused pain, since it is not affecting nerve. This misleading condition leads to serious consequences if not discovered at the right time. Legs might also feel tingly. Changing positions might lessen the pain sometimes.
