Percocet is Oxycodone with Acetaminophen. Oxycodone is an opiate analgesic. This pain reliever is a narcotic and is highly addictive and habit forming. It is highly effective for moderate to sever pain relief. Acetaminophen is added to increase the effects of oxycodone. People who are allergic to acetaminophen should not take Percocet. This mediation is often prescribed for treatment of pain after surgeries. It is an instant-release release medication that is released at once upon digestion.
People who use Percocet should not drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day. People who have liver disease should not use this medication. Women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant should tell their doctor before taking Percocet. Others to breast-feed should not take Percocet since the medication may pass into the breast and harm a nursing baby. Tolerance for percoset can build up over time so more and more of it has to be taken to remain effective at reducing pain. This medication gives a euphoric or “high” feeling that many people like so abuse of the drug is common. Tolerance for the drug can be fairly rapid.
