Aspirin as a Pain Relief Medicine

Aspirin, also called ASA chemically, is a drug which is primarily used as analgesic. Analgesics are essentially drugs used to relieve pain, and this why they are commonly called painkillers. Aspirin is used to reduce inflammation in the body, which is the body’s response towards injurious organisms in the form of swelling, rashes and more. Aspirin is used to relieve minor aches and pain, and also to cure fever. Being one of the most popular and oldest non-steroidal drug, Aspirin has been used to cure pain, though it is not effective for relief from all types of pain. Sometimes used as a painkiller after surgeries, Aspirin is generally used for mild to moderate pain, and it does not treat pain which arises from cramps or gastric distension. However, its efficacy is enhanced with caffeine, and Aspirin is recommended even for toothaches, minor injuries and is very carefully administered to people with heart problems. Aspirin tablets are becoming increasingly popular because of its immediate effect, and every year about 100 billion tablets are consumed. Patients suffering from chronic pain are warned to be careful while taking Aspirin, since a large dosage is required which might consequently cause many dangerous adverse effects.
