Treatment of Scleroderma |
After the long and tedious journey that one has to undergo during diagnosis, when the doctor comes to a final conclusion that a patient has scleroderma the next wheel that is put into motion is the treatment procedures. However up to date there is still no known treatment for scleroderma. All that is available is a combination of drugs that help to alleviate and work on each symptom individually in order to make the lives of the patients more bearable .These drugs may in some cases reduce the rate at which the disease is progressing by a certain percentage . When it comes to reducing the thickening of the skin, the medication that is normally prescribed is known as penicillamine. If the patient starts to develop kidney problems the doctors will administer medications such as vasodilators to curb the situation. In cases of gastrointestinal infections antacids will be administered. The patients are likely to develop painful and swelling joints; drugs such as aspirin will be able to quickly eliminate the problem. Therapy is also incorporated and is may be either through heat therapy or steroid medications, these are very important when it comes to treating joints and muscle stiffness. If the patient is able to follow what the doctors tells them and maintain a positive attitude you may be able to live a normal life |
